Formatting TextThis is where you create the site content. Choose a region to edit from the 'Edit Regions' button. Insert some text into the input area. Note the row of formatting buttons. Highlight some of the text and hit the bold button. Some special tags are entered around the words. Hit 'Save & Preview' and you will see your text as it will appear - with the letters inside the special bold tags appearing in bold. Now from the button menu hit 'Delete Tag'. Place the mouse over the start bold tag and click. The tag disappears. Hit 'Save & Preview' and the bold text becomes normal again. In this way you can Italicise Underline Left Align Center Right Align Justify Change Text Colour Change Text Background Colour Change Text Size Change Font Heading 1Heading 2Heading 3Heading 4Heading 5Heading 6Or any combination of the above. If you get lost then you can always 'Revert' to last saved version or 'Delete All Tags' to remove all formatting and images from the text. |
Adding ImagesThe images must have already been created and uploaded before you can insert them into a page (See here for creating and uploading images). Very Important: Make sure you save your work before you click the 'Insert Image' button else everything since your last save will be lost. Click the 'Insert Image' button and you will be redirected to another page where you can select the image to add. Along with all your uploaded images, there are 4 special images that can be added. Insert Full Sized Random Image Insert Random Thumbnail These two show a random image from your astro images (those with a title in the image details). They change every time the page loads - see the image below and reload the page. Latest Full Sized Image and Latest Thumb are similar to the random images, but they always display the latest image. When a new astro image is created, then the new image will automatically be updated on all the pages that you have a 'Latest Image'. This is my latest image: If a latest image appears more than once on a page, then the previous image is shown i.e if you have latest thumbnail 10 times on a page then it wil always automatically show your latest 10 images. Once you have selected your image you will be redirected back to the format region page. Place the cursor over the input text where you want the image to appear and click. You will be asked where you want to place the image - Left. The image floats to the left side of the region and the text wraps around down the right hand side. Right. The image floats to the right side of the region and the text wraps around down the left hand side. Center. You are then asked for the size. This is the width in pixels. You can also use 'auto' for the image to be displayed exactly as it was uploaded (which is the best option as internet browsers are not as good at resizing images as dedicated image editors such as Adobe Photoshop. Adding Flash MoviesClick the 'Insert Flash' button. A menu will appear of all the flash movies that you have uploaded. (Upload a flash movie .swf in the Upload Files section of the Site Admin menu). Select the position, left right or center the same as if you were inserting an image. Please note that flash movies always appear on top of everything on the screen - this is set in the browser and cannot be changed. Because of this the site makes all flash movies disappear when the user rolls over a drop down menu (otherwise the drop down menu could go behind the movie and make the menu unusable). This is true also of drop down select boxes. | Inserting LinksSelect the text you want to act as a link and hit the 'Insert Link' button. There are five types of links that you can add: 1. External Link. 2. Internal Page Link. 3. Internal Astro Image Link. 4. Link directly to any image. 5. Link To Download A File. 1. Inserting an External Link.An external link is any link that goes outside of your site. Select external link from the box that appears. Enter the link destination in the input box, the link must be complete in the format 'http://www.xyz.com' or 'http://abc.net/sample.htm', or 'http://abc.net/themoon.jpg'.2. Inserting an Internal Page LinkSelect internal page link and a drop down menu appears, from the list click on the page you want to link to.3. Inserting an Internal (Astro) Image LinkSelect internal image link and a drop down menu appears, from the list click on the image page you want to link to. The link will then go to the page to display the image, the description and the details.4. Inserting a Link to any Image.A drop down list appears showing the descriptions of all images that have been uploaded to your site. Select the image you want to link to. The image will open on its own in a window.5. Inserting and Uploading FilesA drop down box will appear with all your uploaded files, just select the file from the list to build the link. Files are for your users to download. Perhaps you have a spreadsheet that you want to share with your site users or members, or maybe a zip file with a raw image etc. They are most used in professional sites for the user to download a catalogue or price list. Before you can insert a file, you need to upload it. From the 'Site Admin' button select upload files. You will go to a page where you can upload the file. Please note that the file size must be under 1Mb. For larger files please contact me and I can increase the size. Open Link In New Window?Check this and when the link is opened it will open a new page. Please note that it is very annoying when normal links open in new pages as the user can easily get confused with so many pages open. Personally I only use this method when linking outside of my site, so users don't close my site page and forget where I was. |
